「Opal」 2008 23×35 C-print
The photo was taken at Oarai seashore in Japan. It was Christmas eve and the darkness made the full moon shine so bright. The medium was 6×6 film format camera.
I opened the aperture long enough to capture the ship sailing towards the Pacific ocean. The photograph came out with a mysterious green from the diffused reflection of light which created a peculiar prism and added a magic into the photo.
I went on to take pictures of a landscape in Japan using the same method. The Nachi water fall colored into deep blue, Mount Koya layers of Orange, Hashikuiiwa dyed in purple etc. The body of work was made from 8 historical footmarks of a Japanese monk “Kukai”.
There are no digital enhancement in these works.
The group exhibition is from the March 3-10 at the 2/20 Gallery,
220 west 16 st. Open 2pm-7pm close on Monday. http://www.220gallery.net/
